about the book

WHAT IS THE GIRL ON THE LEFT?

The Girl on the Left is a love letter to the version of you that was never broken, never in need of fixing—just waiting to be honored. It’s a bold, unfiltered take on self-acceptance, challenging the idea that growth means leaving parts of yourself behind. Through raw storytelling and powerful reflection, this book flips the script on the glow-up narrative and asks: What if the girl you used to be was the foundation, not the problem?

why it matters

In a world obsessed with reinvention, The Girl on the Left is a reminder that transformation doesn’t require erasure. This book taps into themes of self-acceptance, growth, nostalgia, and self-love, creating space for readers to celebrate their past instead of running from it.

Now more than ever, we’re craving authenticity. We need something deeper than the highlight reels and before-and-after shots. The Girl on the Left is here to start that conversation.

about the authors

project creator: megan dirks

Megan Dirks is a brand coach and the visionary creator behind The Girl on the Left project. With a passion for storytelling, she has collaborated with over 20 remarkable women to share raw, transformative stories that inspire and empower. Megan believes in flipping the script on the classic "before and after" narrative, instead embracing the messy, imperfect moments that shape who we are.

why i started #thegirlontheleft

“The idea for The Girl on the Left came from my own struggle to accept from my past self. After losing over 100 pounds, taking control of my health, and completely pivoting my career, I couldn’t recognize her anymore. She felt foreign, shameful and ugly compared to the life I live now. I deleted photos, ignored memories, and even developed a deep resentment toward her. Eventually, through a lot of inner work, I realized she wasn’t the problem. She was the foundation, the one who kept showing up, and the one who paved the way for everything I’ve built today.

In a world obsessed with toxic self-development and the "before and after" highlight reels on social media, this book challenges that narrative. It's a reminder that growth doesn’t mean erasing the past—it’s about embracing every version of yourself along the way.”
